March 30, 2020 Earlier today, Governor Ralph Northam issued an Executive Temporary Stay At Home Order Due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) requiring all individuals in Virginia to remain at their place of residence with some exceptions. So far, the news reports have focused on the stay in place order but not on the exceptions, which is understandable. But for those of you who share custody of a minor child with another parent, you might be concerned about how this Executive Order will impact your custodial exchanges or child care arrangements.
The good news is that the Order, by itself, should not impact your custody exchanges or child care. The Governor’s Order permits individuals to leave their residences for “traveling required by court order or to facilitate child custody, visitation, or child care”.
